HART RANCH, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper Girls and Boys Cross Country teams won the team titles of the Best of the West AA Cross Country Meet Thursday afternoon.
In the boys race, Ty Petrocco picked up another first place medal, crossing the finish line in a time of 16:00.42. Wyatt Balliew of Douglas was distant second, finishing in 16:23.99. Rapid City Central’s Yadriel Munoz was third and Scooper Quinn Bruch finished in fourth. Ty Ferguson of Sturgis came in sixth place.
Sturgis won the team title with a 38 and Rapid City Central was second. Spearfish claimed third.
In the girls race, the Scoopers placed five runners in the top ten, running away with the team title.
Aurora Evans of Douglas won the race in a time of 19:49.20. Paige Willnerd of Sturgis was second, finishing in a time of 19:54.41.
Sheridan Madden of Rapid City Central was third and Lucy Hamer of Sturgis was fourth.
For the Scoopers, Iris Zylstra placed 6th, Keelin Dinkins was 7th and Emilie Reedy was 9th.
Finishing behind Sturgis in the team standings was Rapid City Central in second and Rapid City Stevens in third.
Also Thursday was the Region 5A Cross Country meet at Hart Ranch. Here are results:
