RAPID CITY, SD — Sunday afternoon at around 2:40 PM, Rapid City Police arrested 27-Year-Old Veronica Perez following a three-car collision and a DUI investigation which determined her to “too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle,” according to a report by the RCPD following the incident.
Police upon arrival to the scene spoke to witnesses, and were able to construct a brief timeline based on their accounts: A silver Mazda ran a red light in the area of Anamosa St. and Haines Ave. This resulted in a collision at a high rate of speed with a passing Chevrolet, which seems to have pushed the vehicle into a Jeep Cherokee which was additionally damaged. Following this, the Mazda attempted to leave the roadway, where it became “immobilized on a nearby retaining wall,” according to police, after which Perez allegedly exited the vehicle.
“Police located a used can of air duster inside the Mazda, and noted it was still cold to the touch,” during a search of the Mazda following the interview of witnesses. This initiated a DUI investigation which resulted in Perez’s arrest, after which it was determined Perez was under the influence. She was placed under arrest under charges of DUI, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Obey Traffic Signal, Driving Under Suspension, No Proof of Insurance, and a Probation Hold.
