RAPID CITY, S.D. – Darrell Shoemaker, the Public Information Officer for the City of Rapid City, will be inducted into the Rapid City Stevens High School Raider Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. Shoemaker is being recognized in the Distinguished Service category for his extensive contributions during his tenure with the Rapid City Journal sports writing team.
The induction festivities begin Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, with an introduction scheduled between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Stevens High School Gymnasium. The presentation will take place between the girls and boys varsity basketball games.
The official recognition continues Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, with an inductee social at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Hall of Fame Award Ceremony at 10 a.m. The events are open to friends, family, and members of the Rapid City community.
“Working with Darrell every day, you see the passion he has not only for his work, but also for the people around him,” said Mayor Jason Salamun. “Darrell is the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back and then apologize that he couldn’t do more. I truly cannot think of a more deserving person to be included in this class of inductees to the Raider Sports Hall of Fame.”
Shoemaker has spent his career communicating vital information to Rapid City residents and national audiences. His professional background includes work as a journalist for the Rapid City Journal and service as the West River Congressional Service Director for U.S. Senator Tim Johnson. He has served as the Public Information Officer for the City of Rapid City for the past 11 years.
