RAPID CITY, SD – A Rapid City man faces multiple charges following a late-night disturbance at a local hotel that resulted in an officer being struck in the face.
Police were dispatched to 1314 N. Elk Vale Road at approximately 11:40pm on February 27th after receiving reports of two intoxicated individuals causing a disturbance with staff and throwing items in the lobby.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male, identified as 24-year-old Terrance Running Shield of Rapid City, yelling at a hotel employee. According to police reports, Running Shield exhibited slurred speech and had difficulty maintaining his balance.
As officers attempted to pull Running Shield away from the staff member to de-escalate the situation, he allegedly struck an officer in the face. Authorities took Running Shield to the ground, where he reportedly continued to fight with police.
He was eventually restrained and placed under arrest for simple assault on law enforcement and resisting arrest.
Investigators determined that neither Running Shield nor the intoxicated female accompanying him were registered guests at the hotel. While the female was released from the scene, Running Shield was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
