Rapid City Shatters 1963 Record with Warmest Christmas Day

Rapid City, SD – A historic warm front swept across the region Thursday, making Christmas 2025 the warmest ever recorded in Rapid City.

The National Weather Service office in downtown Rapid City reported a temperature of 68 degrees by 11am on Christmas Day. The mark easily surpassed the previous record of 63 degrees set in 1963.

More extreme weather hit the Black Hills on Christmas Day. Terry Peak reported they were forced to close their aerial ski lifts due to high winds.
