PIERRE, S.D. – An offender from the state prison system, Latoya Shangreaux, has been placed on escape status after failing to return to the Pierre Minimum Center from her work release job site, according to the South Dakota Department of Corrections.

Shangreaux, 37, is a Native American female, five-foot-six inches tall, and weighs 205 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes, and visible neck tattoos.

She is serving sentences for possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear, with both convictions originating in Minnehaha County.

Law enforcement officials are urging the public to contact authorities immediately if they see Shangreaux or have any information regarding her whereabouts.

Failure to return to custody following a work assignment constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony in South Dakota, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. Any individual found concealing an escaped prisoner is also guilty of a Class 5 felony.
