RAPID CITY, S.D. – Four schools in the Rapid City Area Schools district are closed Friday, Dec. 19, following persistent power outages that have left the buildings unable to operate.
District officials announced the closures early Friday morning, citing a lack of electricity at Corral Drive Elementary, Meadowbrook Elementary, Southwest Middle School and North Middle School. According to school administrators, power has not yet been restored to these specific locations, creating conditions that are not safe for students and staff.
While these four campuses are closed, all other schools within the Rapid City district are expected to remain on their normal schedules.
Utility crews have been working to address the service interruptions in Southwest and North Rapid City, though a specific timeline for restoration at the impacted school sites has not been released. District officials stated they are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates regarding extracurricular activities and Monday’s schedule as more information becomes available.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to check the district’s official communication channels for further developments throughout the day.
