RAPID CITY, S.D. — Singer-songwriter Kenny Feidler will return to a rare local stage appearance when he performs at the Black Hills Stock Show on Friday, Feb. 6, opening for Tanner Usrey at the James Kjerstad Event Center.

Feidler, who typically keeps his schedule on the road, said his band logs roughly 50,000 to 60,000 miles a year playing a “weekend warrior” run that takes them across the country. He said the group is made up largely of musicians from the Rapid City area, including drummer Tom Frear and guitarist Casey Sheldon, with two bandmates traveling in from Grand Junction, Colorado, and Glasgow, Montana.

Feidler said he and his band record in Rapid City at Cottonwood Studios, operated by Frear. His latest album, Western Tragedy, released in October, features songs built around stories tied to people he knows, historical events from the West and the region’s characters. Feidler said he writes most of the lyrics, while the music and production are a group effort.

Feidler said he believes consistent live performance is essential to building a lasting career, even as some artists find rapid success online. He said his focus is on delivering strong shows, building relationships with venues and treating the process as a partnership.

Feidler said he can be found on Instagram under Kenny Feidler, on Facebook under “Kenny Feidler and the Cowboy Killers,” and online through KennyFeidler.com.

He said the Feb. 6 show is expected to begin around 8 p.m., with doors typically opening around 6 p.m. Tickets are available through the Black Hills Stock Show website.
