RAPID CITY, South Dakota – City government offices in Rapid City will close on Tuesday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day, impacting several municipal services and facilities across the Black Hills region.

Most city services will be suspended on the federal holiday. Residents should be aware of changes to trash collection, public transit, and facility hours.

The Rapid City Landfill will be closed on Veterans Day. The Solid Waste division has adjusted the trash and recycling collection schedule for the week: Tuesday’s trash collection will take place on Monday. Collections scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will remain the same. Solid Waste officials advise that all cans must be out by 7 a.m. on their scheduled day and left out until collected.

Rapid Transit Service’s RapidRide and Dial-A-Ride services will not operate on the holiday. Transit operations will resume on Wednesday, November 12.

The Rapid City Public Library and The Monument will also be closed for the day.

While the Rapid City Airport will be open on Veterans Day, administrative offices will be closed. Travelers are advised to check directly with airlines for arrival and departure information. Administrative offices for the Rapid City Fire Department and Rapid City Police Department will also be closed, though normal shift operations for emergency services will remain in place.

Following the holiday, the City’s Public Works Committee will convene on Wednesday, November 12, after the regularly-scheduled Legal and Finance Committee meeting, which begins at 12:30 p.m. Both meetings are set to be held in Council Chambers of City Hall.

Veterans Day events are scheduled in Rapid City to honor service members. These include a ceremony at the Hive at The Shops at Main Street Square, along with the annual downtown Veterans Day Parade and a luncheon at VFW Post 1273.
