RAPID CITY, SD — A hockey state championship rematch at the Thunderdome happens this and PRCA Xbulls kicks off the Stock Show this weekend.
Thunder, Flyers Meet in Battle for Nationals
The Rushmore Thunder and Sioux Falls Flyers will face off Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Rushmore Thunderdome in a series with national implications.
The Thunder come into the matchup undefeated, with the Flyers coming into the game after suffering their first loss. The Thunder, the defending national champions, have a 43-1 record over the past two seasons. The winner of the series is expected to be the favorite for the state championship and a berth in the high school national tournament.
Stock Show kicks off with XBulls
Rodeo Rapid City PRCA XBulls rocks The Monument and features 40 top PRCA Bull riding contestants against 40 of the top bulls in the world for over $36,000 in prize money. Rodeo Rapid City is produced by Sutton Rodeo of Onida, SD. Sutton Rodeo is a sixth-generation rodeo company, founded in 1926, best known for award winning PRCA events including Top Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year, Bucking Stock of the Year & Hall of Fame Stock Contractor James Sutton, Sr. Rodeo Rapid City won their 7th title as Large Indoor Rodeo of the year last year and they are looking to with their 4th title in a row.
Voliunteer Opportunities
The Rapid City Sports Association is seeking help scanning tickets at the Stock Show. January 31st at Rodeo Rapid City Xtreme Broncs and February 5th for Rodeo Rapid City PRCS Rodeo. Interested clubs should email domico@rcsportscommission.com .
Sports Complex
The Mayor and the Sports Commission will be presenting alternate locations for the indoor sports complex at City Council on February 2nd. The previous location is still being considered but additional locations will be discussed, the location of the sports complex must be within the Catalyst TIF boundaries.
