Man Threatens Medics with Gun

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A heavy law enforcement presence has cordoned off a neighborhood in Rapid City, South Dakota, Wednesday night following a report of a male subject brandishing a firearm at emergency responders.

The incident began at approximately 8:20 p.m. when a medical unit was dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of Willow Avenue for a routine medical call. According to officials, when medics entered the home to provide care, they were confronted by a male subject who threatened them with a gun.

The medical personnel were able to retreat from the residence safely and immediately alerted law enforcement.

Officers from the Rapid City Police Department and deputies from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office have since saturated the area. Authorities are currently working to establish communication with the individual inside the house.

Police stated that the primary objective is to resolve the situation peacefully. Residents in the immediate vicinity of the 2800 block of Willow Avenue may experience travel disruptions as the scene remains active.
