RAPID CITY, S.D. – The City of Rapid City is once again offering free parking at downtown meters during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and on Saturdays between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This initiative is designed to encourage residents and visitors to support downtown businesses in Rapid City, South Dakota, during the busy holiday shopping season.

The free parking period includes the entire Thanksgiving holiday weekend, running from Thursday, November 27, through Sunday, November 30. Additionally, parking meters will be free on the following three Saturdays in December: the 6th, 13th, and 20th.

Free parking is also scheduled for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Community Development Director Vicki Fisher stated that the free parking helps draw people to the downtown area. “Whether it’s spending time with family and friends to shop at the many stores, take in a movie or special event at Main Street Square, or have a relaxing cup of coffee or lunch or dinner, there are many reasons to come downtown for this holiday season,” Fisher said. “The free parking during stretches of the holiday season is another great way to get the community into the holiday spirit.”

The City of Rapid City has offered free parking on select days during the holiday season for several years.
