STURGIS, S.D. – With the announcement of the arrest of Steven Ulrich this past week, the family of a woman who has been missing for more than 20 years say they hope for justice.
Steven Ulrich was arrested for the murder of Beverly Ozuna-Ulrich on November 25th, more than 22 years after she was reported missing by her family.
Belle Fourche investigators say Steven was arrested following years of interviews and following leads that had come into the department. Police Chief Ryan Cherveny applauded the cooperative effort, but couldn’t yet go into details of the investigation of what led them to where they are today. He also could not say yet whether or not Beverly’s body had been found.
Beverly’s close-knit family posted on social media “From all of Beverly’s family, we want to say Thank you to all those who have prayed, hoped and supported us during the last 22 years. She is finally receiving justice. At this time family can not speak about charges but continued support for a speedy sentence. Your journey can finally start with peace, Mom. I love you dearly!”
The mother of eight children was living in Belle Fourche when she disappeared and had been separated from her husband.
Steven Ulrich was arrested for First Degree Murder with an alternate charge of Second Degree Murder. First Degree Murder is punishable by either life in prison or the death penalty.
Steven Ulrich is in the Meade County Jail on $500,000 cash only bond.
