Extended Software Outage Impacting City’s Ice Arena, Swim Center

RAPID CITY, SD — Rapid City Recreation Division officials announced Thursday they’ve received notification from their Sportsman software platform contractor of a serious extended outage that will impact services at the Roosevelt Swim Center and Ice Arena facilities.

Due to the online outage, facility staff will be unable to process program signups for activities such as summer camps, volleyball or pickleball, sell concessions or tickets utilizing the online system, or reserve shelters.

“We have no ability to sign people up for activities, sell tickets online or in person using the online system or sell merchandise,” said City Recreation Specialist Erin Holmes. “The online outage impacts our entire department with the exception of the golf courses.”

Holmes said the City Recreation Division officials have been notified the outage could persist for several days. This online outage does not impact other city billing or payment processes such as utility payments.

To work around the outage, Holmes said staff will work with cash sales, operating on a cash-only basis for people attending activities and events.  For Badlands Sabres tickets, staff will have cash tickets available at the front desk. On game night, the Sabres will use their own Point of Sale to sell tickets using their credit card system.

Concessions will be closed at both the Ice Arena and Swim Center, but will be available for cash only at Sabres games. Fans can expect some delays when accessing concessions during the games.

“We apologize for any inconveniences our customers and patrons will experience due to this software platform outage,” Holmes said. “We are hoping the issues can be worked out by the contractor as soon as possible and we will work to keep the public updated.”
