WHITEWOOD, S.D. – The Whitewood Police Department and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office were searching for the driver of a vehicle that led them on a chase Thursday.
Law enforcement say Whitewood Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a 2004 Chevy Malibu at around 11:20 a.m. but the vehicle failed to stop.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle, registered to an Ashton Cook of Rapid City, became disabled in an agricultural field.
The driver of the vehicle fled on foot while a passenger in the vehicle surrendered and was taken into custody.
The driver remained at large at last report and was last seen on Whitewood Valley Road wearing jeans, a black shirt and possibly a light-colored flannel.
Authorities continue their search for the driver and the incident remains under investigation.
