Drive-By Shooting, High Speed SUV, and Canine Killed

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Police Department has launched an investigation into a shooting that occurred in a residential neighborhood on the north side of the city.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1700 block of N. 7th Street after multiple shots were fired from a moving vehicle. According to investigators, several residences and vehicles were struck by bullets during the incident. Despite the damage to property, police confirmed that no human injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire.


As the suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed, it struck and killed a dog.


Authorities have identified the suspect vehicle as a dark blue, small Mazda crossover or SUV.


“This was a shooting incident within a busy residential area, and will not be tolerated,” the department stated in a release.


Officials noted that all appropriate resources are being allocated to locate the vehicle and identify its occupants. The investigation remains active as police work to determine a motive for the shooting.
