RAPID CITY, S.D. – Firefighters from multiple agencies, including Johnson Siding Fire Department (JSFD), Doty, Nemo, and Black Hawk Fire Departments, responded to a report of smoke between Rolling Hills Road and Nemo Road on Thursday at approximately 5:15 p.m.

SD Wildland Fire, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), and Rapid City Fire Department (RCFD) also dispatched units to the scene. The fire, located in an area accessible by trails, was contained and extinguished by responding crews.

Despite windy conditions reported on the plains, the fire moved slowly through light ground fuels, allowing firefighters to directly attack the flames. Authorities estimate that approximately one acre burned.

The Johnson Siding Fire Department is actively seeking volunteers. Individuals interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer firefighter are encouraged to contact the department.
