US lawmakers to visit Denmark as Trump continues to threaten Greenland

A bipartisan U.S. congressional delegation is heading to Copenhagen later this week to show unity with Denmark amid President Trump’s threats to seize Greenland. Sen. Chris Coons is leading the trip, which includes at least nine members of Congress. They’ll meet with Danish officials and business leaders on Friday and Saturday. This visit comes as China warns the U.S. against using other countries as a pretext to pursue interests in Greenland. Tensions have grown between Washington, Denmark, and Greenland as Trump pushes the issue, considering options including military force to acquire the Arctic island.

White House circulates a plan to extend Obamacare subsidies as Trump pledges health care fix

The White House is circulating a proposal to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies for two more years. These subsidies were at the heart of the recent government shutdown fight, and they are set to expire at the end of the year. The proposal includes capping eligibility at 700% of the federal poverty level and requiring all enrollees to pay a premium. The plan is still in draft form, and the White House says no plan is final until President Donald Trump announces it. Some Democrats see it as a starting point for negotiations, although conservatives are likely to oppose any effort to extend parts of Obamacare.

Trump signs bill to release Jeffrey Epstein case files after fighting it for months

President Donald Trump has signed a bill to release files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The president and senior Republicans initially resisted the disclosure, but eventually bowed to political pressure. The legislation, signed Wednesday, requires the Justice Department to disclose all files related to Epstein, including details about his death in federal prison in 2019. The files must be released within 30 days, with some redactions allowed for ongoing investigations. Trump, who had been friends with Epstein, insists he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes and cut ties with him long ago.

Joe Biden to attend Dick Cheney’s funeral, as Donald Trump continues to remain silent on his death

Former president Joe Biden plans to attend Thursday’s memorial service for former vice president Dick Cheney at the Washington National Cathedral. Biden, a Democrat, had praised Cheney for his “strong set of conservative values” after his death. The service will feature remarks from former President George W. Bush. Cheney died on Nov. 3 due to complications from pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. President Donald Trump has not commented on Cheney’s death and has had frosty relations with the Cheney family. The White House did lower flags to half-staff in accordance with federal law. The funeral is by invitation only, and it’s unknown whether Trump will attend.

President Donald Trump drops the F-bomb before the cameras. It wasn’t the first time

President Donald Trump talks plainly, bluntly, often even coarsely. But it’s rare he drops an actual F-bomb as cameras are rolling. He did so on Friday, when a journalist asked about Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Trump said: “He doesn’t want to f—— around with the United States.” Tensions between the two countries are heightened after U.S. strikes on boats in Caribbean waters. It’s not common for U.S. presidents to use such profanity publicly, but Trump has done so at least one other time this year, when he vented frustration about Israel and Iran.

White House budget office tells agencies to draft mass firing plans ahead of potential shutdown

The White House is telling agencies to prepare large-scale firings of federal workers if the government shuts down next week. In a memo released Wednesday night, the Office of Management and Budget said agencies should consider a reduction in force for federal programs whose funding would lapse next week, is not otherwise funded and is “not consistent with the President’s priorities.” That would be a much more aggressive step than in previous shutdowns. A reduction in force would not only lay off employees but eliminate the position. Now there’s no pressure on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who have kept nearly all of their ranks united against a clean funding bill pushed by Republicans.

President Donald Trump hints at an announcement in the ‘next two days’ on Iran nuclear talks

President Donald Trump is indicating that there has been progress with Iran on its nuclear program and hinted that an announcement could come in the “next two days.” Those remarks are notably more upbeat than those of the Omani mediator of the talks between the United States and Iran, who said on Friday that the two nations made “some but not conclusive” progress in the fifth round of negotiations in Rome. Trump told reporters on Sunday that: “We’ve had some very, very good talks with Iran.” He added: “And I don’t know if I’ll be telling you anything good or bad over the next two days, but I have a feeling I might be telling you something good.”

President Donald Trump is making clear he is losing patience with Vladimir Putin, leveling some of his sharpest criticism at the Russian leader as Moscow pounds Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles for a third straight night. Trump wrote on social media on Sunday night that: “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” The U.S. president warned that if Putin wants to conquer all of Ukraine it will “lead to the downfall of Russia!” But Trump expressed frustration with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as well, saying that he is “doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does.”
