No. 1 Arizona’s defense and 23 points from Jaden Bradley help beat UCF 84-77

Arizona overcame foul trouble to star forward Koa Peat with a hounding defensive effort to beat UCF 84-77 on the road. Jaden Bradley led the Wildcats with 23 points. Brayden Burries scored 18 points and Motejus Krivas added 17 with 12 rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Peat was held to a season-low four points in 20 minutes. UCF got a career-high 30 points from senior guard Themus Fulks to pace them through the game. Fulks added eight assists and five rebounds for the Knights.

UCF pulls off an 81-75 win against No. 17 Kansas to earn best start since 2010-11

Riley Kugel had 19 points and a crucial three-point play with less than 10 seconds remaining to lead UCF over No. 17 Kansas 81-75. Themus Fulks had 16 points and Jordan Burks scored 14 for UCF, which is off to its best start since 14-0 in 2010-11. Kansas played most of the second half without star guard Darryn Peterson, who scored 23 of his 26 points in the first half. Peterson missed the previous two games with cramps and missed seven prior games with a hamstring injury.

Michigan, Texas prepare for future in Citrus Bowl clash

The Michigan Wolverines’ present and future were in the same hotel room Sunday morning. Bringing those two together will be the big challenge in the coming months. The shadow around the program has centered on the firing of head coach Sherrone Moore on Dec. 10 for what the school said was an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. The team had to push on and prepare for the Citrus Bowl matchup Wednesday against No. 14 Texas amid all the changes. No. 18 Michigan hired former Utah coach Kyle Whittingham and introduced him Sunday. He met with his new team briefly at their Orlando hotel Saturday.

No. 12 BYU, No. 24 Georgia Tech have lots to play for outside CFP when they meet in Pop-Tarts Bowl

No. 12 BYU and No. 24 Georgia Tech were disappointed they fell outside the College Football Playoff. But both teams still feel there is plenty to play for when they meet Saturday in Orlando, Florida, for the Pop-Tarts Bowl. It is one of three non-playoff bowl matchups between teams that were ranked in the final CFP standings. It features two run-heavy offenses and stout defenses.

Bane’s big 4th quarter helps the Magic beat the struggling Bulls 125-120

Desmond Bane scored 18 of his 37 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Orlando Magic beat the Chicago Bulls 125-120. Bane made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 3:23 left, sparking an 8-0 run for the Magic. He also capped the decisive sequence with a foul shot that made it 117-111 with 2:11 to go. Bane was 12 for 17 from the field. He also had six rebounds and five assists. Franz Wagner scored 25 points for Orlando, and reserve Anthony Black had 22 points and nine rebounds. The Magic won for the sixth time in seven games. Josh Giddey had 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Chicago in its fourth consecutive loss.

Shawn Clark, UCF offensive line coach and former Appalachian State coach, dies at 50

UCF offensive line coach Shawn Clark has died nearly two weeks after being hospitalized with a medical emergency. The school announced that Clark died Sunday at 50 years old. Clark suffered the medical emergency on Sept. 9 and had been away from the team. Clark joined UCF’s staff this season after five seasons as head coach at Appalachian State. He went 40-24 in five seasons there and was 3-1 in bowl games. UCF coach Scott Frost said Clark was “so much more than a coach.” He called Clark a “remarkable man, husband, and father.”
