Darius Acuff Jr. scores 49 points against Alabama and nearly delivers in OT for Arkansas

Darius Acuff Jr. nearly delivered No. 20 Arkansas a stunning victory in double overtime on a night when the Razorbacks were down to a seven-man rotation against 25th-ranked Alabama. Acuff scored 49 points — the second most in college basketball this season — and carried Arkansas much of the night in 117-115 loss at Alabama. He made 16 of 27 shots, including 6 of 1o from 3-point range, and added five rebounds and five assists. He played all 50 minutes for coach John Calipari’s injury-depleted squad and had two decent looks at game-winners. He missed jump shots at the end of each overtime period.

Judge rules 7-foot center Charles Bediako is no longer eligible to play for Alabama

An Alabama circuit judge has denied Alabama basketball player Charles Bediako’s motion for a preliminary injunction, ending the 7-foot center’s collegiate eligibility and his season with the Crimson Tide. County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Pruet cited that Bediako “failed to demonstrate that he is entitled to the injunctive relief that he seeks,” according to court documents. Bediako was playing under a temporary restraining order that allowed the former NBA G League player to join Alabama in the middle of the season despite questions regarding his collegiate eligibility. NCAA President Charlie Baker said in a statement that he was glad the court “upheld the rules of our members.”

Alabama’s Charles Bediako preparing to play again while judge mulls decision in eligibility case

An Alabama circuit judge didn’t rule immediately following Charles Bediako’s lawsuit hearing against the NCAA, clearing a path for the 7-footer to continue to play. The Crimson Tide play at rival Auburn on Saturday. County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Pruet said he would have a ruling “soon” but did not provide one by the end of the business day. Bediako is expected to continue to play under a temporary restraining order that allowed him to join Alabama in the middle of the season despite questions regarding his collegiate eligibility. The 23-year-old Bediako is averaging 9.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in four outings. Alabama is 2-2 in those contests.

No. 17 Alabama plans to play 7-footer Charles Bediako, who turned pro in 2023, against Tennessee

Alabama coach Nate Oats says 7-foot center Charles Bediako, who gave up his college eligibility in 2023 to enter the NBA draft, will play against Tennessee on Saturday. Although Oats called the NCAA system that is allowing professional players to return to college “broken,” he is taking advantage of the loophole. The 23-year-old Bediako practiced with the 17th-ranked Crimson Tide a day after a judge in Tuscaloosa temporarily reinstated the player’s college eligibility and blocked the NCAA from retaliating for his return. Bediako has signed several NBA developmental contracts since 2023, including playing for the Motor City Cruise in the NBA’s G League as recently as last week. He spent two seasons at Alabama before turning pro.

Alabama defenders Hubbard, Lawson and Jefferson are traveling redemption road to the Rose Bowl

Alabama’s defense is filled with comeback and redemption stories. There’s safety Bray Hubbard. There’s linebacker Deontae Lawson. There’s fellow linebacker Justin Jefferson. The trio leads the way for a unit that seems determined to make amends for a disappointing season last year. They’ll no doubt be ones to watch when the 13th-ranked Crimson Tide (10-3) take on No. 1 Indiana (13-0) and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup at the Rose Bowl on Thursday.

Zabien Brown has a ‘clutch gene’ that has become part of Alabama’s DNA heading into the Rose Bowl

Alabama cornerback Zabien Brown has a knack for making big plays. He’s delivered so many during two seasons with the Crimson Tide that there’s only one explanation: it’s part of his DNA. He says he has “that clutch gene.” He’s on the verge of becoming legendary and could get there when Alabama (10-3) plays No. 1 Indiana (13-0) and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the Rose Bowl in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff on Thursday. Brown, a sophomore from California, returned two interceptions for touchdowns this season, including a 50-yarder against Oklahoma in the opening round of the CFP.

No. 11 Oklahoma travels with its defense again and upsets No. 4 Alabama 23-21

Oklahoma’s playmaking defense traveled great again, this time coming up with 17 points off three turnovers for a 23-21 upset of Alabama. The Sooners’ win on Saturday throws more chaos into the Southeastern Conference and College Football Playoff pictures. The 11th-ranked Sooners backed up their win two weeks ago at Tennessee with an even bigger shocker — this time taking down the fourth-ranked Crimson Tide. Eli Bowen returned an interception 87 yards for a touchdown, Kip Lewis had two sacks and OU snapped Alabama’s 17-game home winning streak while handing its second-year coach, Kalen DeBoer, his first loss at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
