James Franklin hired as Virginia Tech’s coach, just over a month after Penn State fired him

James Franklin has been hired as Virginia Tech’s football coach, a little more than a month after he was fired during his 12th season at Penn State. The Hokies announced the move Monday evening, becoming the first Power 4 program to fill a coaching vacancy this season. Franklin was set to be formally introduced at a news conference Wednesday morning. He was fired by the Nittany Lions on Oct. 12, a day after they lost at home to Northwestern to fall to 3-3. The 53-year-old Franklin went 104-45 at Penn State. He led the Nittany Lions to a College Football Playoff first-round victory last season.

Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown help No. 16 Louisville rush past Virginia Tech in 28-16 victory

Isaac Brown rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown before leaving late with a leg injury and Keyjuan Brown scored twice in the second half to lift No. 16 Louisville to a 28-16 victory over Virginia Tech. Miller Moss added a touchdown pass for the Cardinals, who rallied Saturday from a 16-7 halftime deficit to win their third straight game. Virginia Tech was led by Kyron Drones, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown and also threw for a score. But the Hokies were shut out in the second half and amassed less than 100 yards.
