Jeremiyah Love scores 3 TDs as No. 9 Notre Dame overwhelms injury-ravaged Syracuse 70-7

Notre Dame has set several school records for scoring, thanks to a 70-7 rout of injury-decimated Syracuse. Jeremiyah Love bolstered his Heisman Trophy candidacy with 171 yards rushing and three touchdowns on just eight carries for the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish in Saturday’s romp. Notre Dame set a modern-era scoring record, topping its 69-point outing against Georgia Tech on Nov. 5, 1977. Syracuse allowed 70 points for the first time since it gave up 75 to Union in 1891. Notre Dame also set school records for first-quarter points with 35 and first-half points with 49. The Fighting Irish have won nine straight after an 0-2 start.

No. 16 Texas A&M beats No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40 on late TD strike

Marcel Reed escaped pressure to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Nate Boerkircher with 13 seconds left, Randy Bond kicked the extra point and No. 16 Texas A&M beat No. 8 Notre Dame 41-40 on Saturday night. Texas A&M (3-0) beat a Top 25 team on the road for the first time since knocking off then-No. 3 Auburn on Nov. 8, 2014. The Aggies had lost 13 straight road games to ranked opponents. Notre Dame dropped to 0-2 after playing in the national title game last season. The Irish opened with a 24-27 loss at No. 5 Miami on Aug. 31. Bond made a 45-yard field goal to tie it at 34 with 9:06 left.

CJ Carr hopes to add to family’s football legacy after winning starting QB job at No. 6 Notre Dame

CJ Carr’s grandfather, Lloyd, led college football’s winningest program, Michigan, to the 1997 national championship. Now the second-year quarterback hopes to win his own title — at one of the nation’s most prestigious programs, Notre Dame. Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman selected Carr as the starter for next weekend’s marquee season-opening matchup between No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 10 Miami. Carr outdueled Kenny Minchey for the job. Carr replaces Riley Leonard, who is now playing in the NFL. Leonard’s top backup, Steve Angeli, transferred to Syracuse in the spring.
