Team president Kevin Warren insisted in an open letter to fans that the team still prefers to build a new home on a tract of land it owns in suburban Arlington Heights, Illinois. He also said the Bears are not using the threat to cross state lines as leverage. Warren did not say where in Northwest Indiana the Bears would look to move. The Bears’ focus for a new home has fluctuated between a tract of land they own in Arlington Heights to the Chicago lakefront, and then back to the suburb.

It all added up to the Padres getting knocked out of the playoffs yet again, this time courtesy of the Chicago Cubs. San Diego won 90 games and made the playoffs for the fourth time in six seasons, only to bow out to the Cubs in the deciding Game 3 of their Wild Card Series with a 3-1 loss at raucous Wrigley Field on Thursday. That came on the heels of a win over Dallas at home in which Williams tied a career high with four touchdown passes.

Caleb Williams tied a career high with four touchdown passes and the Chicago Bears gave Ben Johnson his first win as a head coach by beating the Dallas Cowboys 31-14. The Bears got a win they sorely needed coming off a 52-21 blowout loss at Detroit. Johnson called out his team’s practice habits during the week. But he had to like what he saw against the Cowboys. Johnson’s offense broke off several big plays in racking up 385 yards. It added up to a rough day for Dallas defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus in his first appearance at Soldier Field since the Bears fired him as head coach last November.

Chicago Sky are struggling out of the gate with a new coach and revamped roster

The Chicago Sky are struggling with a new coach and revamped roster. They are 2-6 following a lopsided road loss to the New York Liberty. A season-ending knee injury to franchise career assist leader Courtney Vandersloot only added to their difficulties. The slow start comes on the heels of a 10th-place finish in the WNBA. The Sky dropped 12 of their final 14 games last year, then got busy reshaping the roster. Chicago fired coach Teresa Weatherspoon after one season and hired Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh. The Sky brought in veteran leadership to help Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. They reunited with Vandersloot and acquired two-time All-Star Ariel Atkins.

With record crowd watching, Sky get blown out by Fever in first WNBA game at United Center

The Chicago Sky hosted the Indiana Fever in the first WNBA game at the United Center. It was a big moment even if the result wasn’t what they wanted. The Sky got blown out 79-52 in a game that was moved from the smaller Wintrust Arena even though Indiana was without Caitlin Clark. The 2024 Rookie of the Year missed her fourth straight game because of a quad injury and watched the primetime, nationally televised game from the sideline. The enthusiastic crowd of 19,496 surpassed Chicago’s previous high of 16,444 in 2016 at Allstate Arena in suburban Rosemont, though tickets weren’t hard to find. They were listed on StubHub for as little as $9 a few hours before tipoff.
