After much work, Sturgis finally passes 2025 budget

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis, in a special meeting last night, unanimously approved second reading of the 2025 budget.

Second reading follows first reading, passed last week.

The 2025 budget features cuts in nearly every department, including the Rally and Events, where three full time positions were affected.

Acting Mayor Kevin Forrester says decisions were not made lightly, but were necessary.

The General Fund budget was just over $10-million for 2025, with public works at $4.6 million, public safety at $4.6 million, economic development at $4.8 million and ambulance at $1.7 million.

Also part of the budget is having the Sturgis Chamber handle many of the events previously done by the Rally and Events department.

The Chamber will also oversee the Music on Main concert series held on Wednesday’s during June and July.

The 2025 budget, with just under $200,000 in the contingency fund, will become official just ahead of the 2025 calendar year.
