A new dermatology clinic is set to open this spring, bringing advanced medical and aesthetic skin care to the heart of the Black Hills.
Dr. Lycia Thornburg, a board certified dermatologist with more than twenty years of experience in the region, announced the launch of Thornburg Dermatology, opening in May at 3535 Fifth Street. The clinic is currently undergoing a full renovation and will feature state of the art technology designed to serve patients of all ages.
Thornburg Dermatology will offer comprehensive general dermatology, including skin checks, acne treatment, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, and pediatric dermatology. The clinic will accept insurance, making expert skin care accessible for families across the Black Hills.
In addition to medical dermatology, the clinic will also provide a full suite of aesthetic services. Patients can expect Botox, fillers, advanced laser treatments, facials, and DiamondGlow services. Dr. Thornburg noted that the clinic will feature the newest laser technology available in the country, including the Halo Tribrid laser, which will be introduced to the region for the first time.
For Dr. Thornburg, dermatology is both professional and personal. She shared that her interest in the field began in childhood after dealing with eczema and frequent dermatology visits. That early experience stayed with her through medical school, ultimately guiding her into a specialty focused on improving quality of life through skin health.
Her daily practice reflects that balance. Mornings are often dedicated to medical care, including preventative skin checks and treatment of chronic skin conditions. Afternoons shift toward aesthetic dermatology, where patients seek confidence boosting treatments that help their outward appearance align with how they feel inside.
Dr. Thornburg also emphasizes the importance of skin cancer awareness, particularly in areas that are often overlooked, such as the hands and feet. She encourages regular self checks and professional evaluations, noting that early detection can be lifesaving.
Beyond the clinic, Dr. Thornburg is deeply involved in the community. She hosts an annual fundraiser called Made for Shade, which benefits local nonprofits and focuses on providing shade structures for playgrounds, community spaces, and tree planting initiatives. This year’s event will take place June eleventh at Arrowhead and will feature a gourmet food and wine tasting with a Copacabana theme. Auction items will include aesthetic services, luxury experiences, and regional packages.
When asked what she is most proud of in her career, Dr. Thornburg points to relationships. Many of her patients have been with her since childhood and now bring in their own families. She also highlights the importance of caring for her team, believing that a supported staff leads to better patient care and a stronger practice overall.
As Thornburg Dermatology prepares to open its doors, the clinic promises a blend of medical expertise, advanced technology, and a patient centered approach built on decades of trust in the Black Hills.
