PHILIP, S.D. – Transportation officials say a fire has temporarily closed a state highway in Western South Dakota.
The highway patrol says South Dakota Highway 73 immediately south of Philip is closed to traffic due to a grain elevator fire.
Officials say the closure is for the safety of the traveling public and to allow firefighters to access the area.
Firefighters have established a safety perimeter as they work to contain and put out the fire. The public is asked to avoid the area until further notice.
The SDDOT will provide updates for the reopening of Highway 73 via social media platforms.
