Sturgis man involved in standoff pleads not guilty

STURGIS, S.D. – A Sturgis man who was involved in a standoff with police in October pleaded not guilty Wednesday to various charges.

Daniel O’Crotty, 43, is accused of stalking, simple assault, false imprisonment and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The charges stem from an incident that took place on Oct. 17 when O’Crotty allegedly took his girlfriend’s car.

He’s accused of returning intoxicated and refusing to give the keys back.

According to court documents, O’Crotty then became violent, stopping his girlfriend from escaping – even throwing her to the floor.

This resulted in a standoff at a home in the Blucksberg Subdvision just outside Sturgis.

The probable cause affidavit in the case says the girlfriend claims she feared for her life during the incident.

O’Crotty’s next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 13.
