RAPID CITY, South Dakota – Numerous local events are scheduled Tuesday for the Veterans Day holiday, honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. The day of recognition and remembrance in the Black Hills also means closures for Rapid City government offices and adjustments to several city services.
Rapid City government offices will be closed for Veterans Day. Impacted services include trash collection and public transit. Residents of Rapid City should note the following service changes:
- The Rapid City Landfill will be closed Veterans Day. The week’s trash and recycling collection schedule is as follows: Tuesday’s trash collection is scheduled for Monday, with Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday collections remaining the same. Solid Waste officials advise that all cans are to be out by 7 a.m. on their scheduled day and leave the cans out until collected.
- Rapid Transit Service’s RapidRide and Dial-A-Ride services will not be operating on Veterans Day. Transit operations will resume on Wednesday.
- The Rapid City Public Library and The Monument will be closed on the holiday.
- The City’s Public Works Committee will convene Wednesday, November 12 after the regularly-scheduled Legal and Finance Committee meeting, which begins at 12:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers of City Hall.
Veterans Day events in Rapid City include a 9 a.m. ceremony at The Hive at The Shops at Main Street Square, hosted by the Black Hills War Monument Association. The annual downtown Veterans Day Parade will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at VFW Post 1273. Mayor Jason Salamun will participate in the Veterans Day Drive-Thru Parade at Meadowbrook Elementary School at 2 p.m.
