LAKEWOOD, Colo. – While the Black Hills State University women’s basketball team has spent a majority of the young conference season playing with the lead, on Saturday afternoon it was the opposite as they had to overcome an early deficit and come from behind to defeat Colorado Christian 77-70 in the CCU Event Center.
The Yellow Jackets took control of the game and remained one of just two undefeated teams in RMAC play as they out-scored the Cougars by ten in the fourth quarter and were led by Haylee Weathersby who poured in a career-high 29 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field while she also matched a career-high of ten rebounds.
It was just the second career double-double for the senior from Glendale, Arizona, as both have occurred within the first two weeks of conference play.
Meanwhile, the Black Hills State University men’s basketball team will enter the winter break with their third consecutive win in RMAC play as they took control early with a 21-0 scoring run and cruised to an 85-56 victory at Colorado Christian.
The Yellow Jackets used the long ball to their advantage throughout the night as a season-high of nine 3-pointers in a half set the tone in the opening 20 minutes of action and they then proceeded to end the game with a season-high of 16 made in the game as they shot 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Six different players made a 3-pointer in the game as Tristan Hurdle led the way while matching a season-high of five made baskets from deep, including knocking down back-to-back midway through the second half that sparked a 21-5 run to extend the lead down the stretch.
