RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a woman injured on Thursday morning.
Officers responded to a call just before 10 a.m. about a gunshot victim at a home at 110 E. Watertown Street. When they arrived, they found a woman who had been shot in the leg by a bullet that entered her home from outside. She received emergency care at the scene before being taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing several people running from the area after the shooting. About 45 minutes later, officers detained several individuals at a nearby convenience store who are believed to be involved. A firearm was also recovered during this time.
Investigators believe the victim and the shooter knew each other, and the shooting appears to have been targeted rather than random. Police have assured the public there is no ongoing danger.
The Rapid City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing to gather information. Further updates, including any criminal charges, will be provided as the investigation moves forward.
