Fans stormed the court on a night when UCLA honored John Wooden, the Indiana native and Purdue alumnus. Donovan Dent led the Bruins with 23 points and 13 assists. It was Purdue’s first loss since Dec. 6 and kept the Boilers from taking sole possession of first place in the Big Ten over idle Nebraska.

The New York Mets have acquired center fielder Luis Robert Jr. in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. New York sent infielder Luisangel Acuña and minor league pitcher Truman Pauley to Chicago for Robert, who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency since a stellar 2023 season. The Mets had been looking for outfield help since they traded Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for second baseman Marcus Semien. After Minneapolis, Democrats confront political vulnerabilities to battle Trump on immigration

Democrats are rethinking their midterm election strategy due to the controversial immigration crackdown in Minnesota. The killing of an American mother by federal agents has sparked outrage, but the party is divided on how to respond. Some are calling to abolish ICE, echoing “defund the police” rhetoric from President Donald Trump’s first term. Others are proposing legislation to curb alleged abuse, which activists criticize as insufficient. The party faces pressure to balance immigration issues with core messages on health care and affordability. Republicans, meanwhile, feel confident in their stance on immigration and crime.

President Donald Trump’s plane, Air Force One, has safely returned to Joint Base Andrews about an hour after departing for Switzerland on Tuesday evening. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says the decision to return was made after takeoff when the crew aboard Air Force One identified “a minor electrical issue” and, out of an abundance of caution, decided to turn around. Trump will board another aircraft  and continue on with his trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos. The two planes currently used as Air Force One have been flying for nearly four decades. Boeing has been working on replacements, but the program has faced a series of delays.

Warriors prepare to go forward without Jimmy Butler after season-ending right knee injury

Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors are still coming to terms with how dramatically their season changes now given Jimmy Butler’s season-ending right knee injury and how they must depend on their depth going forward without the do-everything guard. An MRI exam after the injury revealed Butler tore the ACL in his right knee during the third quarter of a 135-112 victory Monday against his former Miami team and will need surgery. He landed awkwardly moments after catching a pass in the paint following a collision with the Heat’s Davion Mitchell. Butler’s surgery date hadn’t been set.

Warren Buffett’s successor eyes selling off Berkshire Hathaway’s 325 million Kraft Heinz shares

Warren Buffett’s successor appears to be considering his first significant move after taking over as CEO this month. Kraft Heinz warned investors Tuesday that Berkshire Hathaway may be interested in selling its 325 million shares in the name brand food giant that Buffett helped create back in 2015. Buffett and the Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital orchestrated the merger of Kraft and Heinz back then because they already owned Heinz and believed in the power of their brands. Now Greg Abel may be plotting a different course. CFRA Research analyst Cathy Seifert wonders if this could be just the beginning of a comprehensive review of Berkshire’s holdings that could lead to additional sales.

Trump’s list of targeted opponents grows longer with action against Minnesota’s governor

Jerome Powell isn’t the first high-profile official to find himself targeted by the Justice Department since Donald Trump returned to the White House. The Republican president pledged in his inaugural address his government would apply the law fairly — unlike the way he said federal power had been turned against him. What’s happened since is a string of indictments and inquiries and failed attempts at indictments against a long line of people who’ve crossed Trump. The list includes Federal Reserve governors who won’t cut interest rates fast enough for Trump, former directors at the CIA and the FBI, and prosecutors who’ve investigated and even won cases against him.

Fans chanted “Hoo, hoo, hoo, Hoo-siers,” as the team buses arrived at Indiana’s practice facility. Cassidy primary shows how Trump pits Republicans against each other as they face midterm reckoning

President Donald Trump is fighting a two-front war at the outset of this year’s midterm campaigns, working to prevent Democratic victories while also attempting to purge the Republican Party of the few remaining members who have defied him. Sen. Bill Cassidy became Trump’s latest target on Tuesday when Rep. Julia Letlow announced a primary challenge with the president’s endorsement. Cassidy had been unable to work his way back into Trump’s good graces after voting to convict the president during his 2021 impeachment trial after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The race puts Trump directly at odds with Senate Republican leadership. Trump has also declined to endorse Sen. John Cornyn in a Texas primary and Sen. Susan Collins in Maine.

Trump puts next steps on Gaza ceasefire plan at risk by antagonizing Europe over Greenland

President Donald Trump closed out 2025 with his plan to end the Israel-Hamas war in fine fettle. With an endorsement from the U.N. Security Council to form a “Board of Peace” to oversee Gaza’s future, Trump entered 2026 riding high in his self-described role as a “president of peace” who sought to end conflicts and certainly not create new ones. He has since ordered a military operation to capture then-Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and threatened to use force to annex Greenland from fellow NATO member Denmark. With that, the next steps in his Gaza ceasefire plan and attempt to expand the mandate of the Board of Peace to other global crises appear to be at risk.

The Supreme Court seems likely to strike down Hawaii restrictions on carrying guns in stores in the justices’ latest firearm case since their landmark decision expanding Second Amendment rights. Hawaii said the measure is aimed at making sure private owners have the right to decide whether they want firearms on their property. The high court heard arguments in the case Tuesday. Conservative justices seemed skeptical of the state’s argument, questioning whether Hawaii could make similar rules restricting First Amendment freedom of speech rights on private property.
