RAPID CITY, S.D. — More than 1,300 runners registered for the 2025 Turkey Trot in Rapid City on Thursday, continuing a holiday tradition that has become one of the region’s largest Thanksgiving morning events.

The annual run, organized by Black Hills Runners Club, draws participants of all ages who turn out to raise money, enjoy the holiday spirit and compete for a chance to win a pie. Many also stopped for photos with “Trotter,” the event’s well-known mascot.

The Black Hills Runners Club has hosted the Turkey Trot for 44 years. Proceeds benefit the club’s scholarship fund and help support local trail maintenance.

Organizers said the mild fall weather made for an ideal morning for both runners and walkers.

Happy Thanksgiving.
